Artist love - Kate Roebuck

I am continually searching for design inspiration and love when I come across an artist's work that makes a graphic, colorful statement. Often times when I am designing a space, I feel it's almost complete but we need to find the perfect pieces of art to add the finishing touch.  Don't get me wrong there are times when a beautiful piece of art can also be the impetus for a design and/or color palette.

Today while working on a project I came across the paintings and prints of textile designer and artist Kate Roebuck. Her pieces are colorful, textural and in her words "rhythmic". I'm liking them.........

For purchasing information visit her site: Bower bird collective. Kate's sister, Laura, is also an artist. Her paintings are equally as pretty but have a slightly softer feel.

Here is a sampling of Kate's designs:

Many of her works are over sized. They would make a great statement on a larger wall!

I'm a fan of oversized artwork that sort of stops you in your tracks!

Super-sized

Proportion plays a huge part in my work, great design is all about balancing the elements. Over scaled artwork is the perfect way to add interest and drama to your home. My client art install went great last week, the large scaled painting by artist Elise Morris perfectly finished off the room! It's almost photo-ready!

September - Book Of The Month

Don't be fooled by the warm weather; scarf season is upon us. I'm sure by next week it will drop to a 55 crisp degrees in Boston. If you read my blog with any regularity then you probably know I love to layer my outfits with scarfs from time to time; that coupled with the fact that I am teaching retail design this semester, I am quite fashion store and design obsessed right now. Hence, my choice for this month's "recommended read". The Hermes Scarf, History and Mystique. It's a visual collection and history of the Hermes scarf. {plus it will make a statement on your empty coffee table, I'm especially loving the cover of the "limited" edition book pictured below}

and the limited edition version.

forget my neck, purse candy or belt option, I may have to run out and purchase a piece of silk for my wall..{it's cheaper then most of the paintings I am drawn to but still a piece of fashion history, right?}

{love the idea of framing a scarf for my bedroom wall!}
