Singing the bedroom blues

Heeejsan! It's way past mid-morning but I can't seem to shake that tired feeling (despite the copious amounts of double strength coffee of course). It has a lot to do with an early morning breakfast meeting with my wonderful mentoree Ebba (have you ever done any mentoring? It's surprisingly energising, not to mention rewarding - I can highly recommend it!). But, being the terrible morning person that I am, all I want to do now is crawl back under the covers - how nice would that be?! I've got lots to do though so instead I'll *dream* of a quiet doze in this Swedish bedroom. I mean, just how beautiful are the walls? The grey-blue tone is both cocoon-like and calm in equal measure and looks so striking against the white ceiling, window frames and doors. Add to that the wooden furniture and soft linen bedding and the entire space is an oasis of comfort and calm! Of course, there's also a roaring fire waiting just around the corner to keep you toasty over breakfast - perfect!

Could you imagine a duvet day here?

It's very difficult to recommend a paint colour (although if anyone can let us know this exact paint colour we'd all be happy bunnies?!). My best advice is to nip down to a paint shop and pick up several different tones which match this and try them out on the different walls in the room. The colour can vary dramatically depending on the orientation of the room and time of day.

A Swedish apartment in cool, calm, icy tones

I do love a Friday! But isn't it just so hard to concentrate?! It doesn't help that it's turning into a beautiful spring day outside and the birds are calling my name (I'm sure of it!). To get us in the mood for the weekend I've opted for an incredibly calm apartment in Gothenburg today. The space has been decorated in beautiful icy tones throughout resulting in a striking look reminiscent of trees silhouetted against a stark winter landscape in the North of Sweden. Enjoy!

The beautiful Stockholm home of Amelia Widell

Tja, läget? Excitement all round in our house this morning as the very first copy of my new book
arrived! Eeeeee! Such a wonderful moment, all the hours, days... months even, of hard work feel like they paid off.  So exciting! It'll arrive in stores in mid April (currently available for pre-order here) - and I'll be sure to be sharing a little more info (and a peek inside) then. I hope you'll love the beautiful Scandinavian home tours as much as I do! Right. Back to earth, and on with today's post: a tour of the fabulous home of Amelia Widell. Amelia is owner of interior company MeliMeli as well as a blogger at Elle Decoration Sweden and lives with her daughter Luca in a fabulous apartment in Södermalm, Stockholm.  The space, which features in the latest edition of Elle Decoration, is furnished with a beautiful blend of antiques, vintage finds, items from MeliMeli and pieces collected on travels set against a backdrop of blue, white and brown. Let's take a peek inside....

A lovely Swedish kitchen with blue accent

There's a lot of colour blocking going on in the home decor world right now - from dark green and deep blue accent walls to entire spaces painted in charcoal. But what if we're not quite ready to take the plunge? Or perhaps it doesn't work for the space you have? My home for example, was fairly dark when we bought it, so we've done everything we can to brighten it up. The kitchen in this lovely Stockholm apartment might just hold the answer. Everything has been kept fresh white (with subtle touches of black) save for a section of shelving in a beautiful, vibrant blue - and what a difference it makes to the entire room?! The rest of the apartment, which dates back to 1913, is pretty nice too! Let's take a peek...

This apartment is for sale through Fastighetsmäklarna

I do love the kitchen, it reminds me a little of this lovely one

Could you imagine using colour in this way?

Get the look: kitchen: ant chairs, string shelves, pick up a vintage industrial pendant here, white linen table cloth. sitting room - Aröd lamp from IKEA, source a credenza like this here. bedroom - sinnerlig lamp from IKEA, grey linen bedding.

To me, blue and white will always be synonymous with Swedish homes. Some of my faovurites include: a Swedish home with touches of cornflower blue,  a striking Stockholm space in deep blue and the wonderful home of a food blogger.

Have a lovely day!
