Shelter Loves....

Happy Fri-yay!! I had a great design meeting today with a client I have worked with in the past! A big part of my business involves building relationships. I love watching my clients lives evolve and their families grow. The personal connections I make through my job is one of the most rewarding aspects!
I was working away on quite a few projects this week so my brain is in need of a day off.. Here is what caught my eye in the process! Peace out, have a relaxing weekend!

1. I designed a nursery yesterday. I love creating spaces for children that they can grow into. Designer, Nick Olsen did just that with this beautiful nursery design. Image via Veranda.
2. I'm kinda digging the platform wedge shoes that are out right now. They are stylish and comfy..A win, win in my book!
3. God, don't we all know this!! I've got to learn to move on a bit better.
4. I've decided to finally finish my personal photo wall in my home. I loved this mix of images and the simple framing used here.
5. + 6. My wonderful client and I walked through her new home today. It is a beautiful house with so much opportunity. We talked about injecting her home with moments of black and white stripes. The classic combo is perfect when done right! This Dorothy Draper designed floor is a great example of the look I adore! I'm also loving this moto jacket layered over a summery striped dress. Find a similar dress here.

Choosing Room Decor For Your Child’s Bedroom

Everyone loves to decorate a bedroom.  Though, there are so many different options to look at when it comes to decorating a room.  For most, they will end up going for wall paper or paint that is just one colour and plain.

Of course, painting a room one colour can look nice but children don’t always want to see plain walls.  For most children that are quite young, they want to draw and unfortunately that can also mean the walls.  Now a lot of parents might not mind but to be honest, it isn’t the look you want for your child’s bedroom.  You want their bedroom to look smart and fun but that is why you could look to decorate your child’s bedroom with a special theme.

Everyone loves to make their child’s room very special!  Of course, a special theme for the bedroom or the play room will really help to draw in the child so that they enjoy playing there!  Though, there are quite a lot of different themes to choose from and for most children, they love one character one week and then the next, they love another character. However, you don’t always need to decorate a child’s room every week because the Despicable Me minion’s room décor is very popular.  This has to be the one theme that works perfectly in any child’s room because they are the characters everyone loves.

The unpredictable and very funny minions are the characters everyone loves and decorating a room with these characters will make your children love you more!  You could create a tower of minions on a wall with stickers or stencils.

Though, decorating your child’s room with the Despicable Me minions can actually be a lot of fun and you can go a little crazy with the décor also!  you can have a lot fun and remember, you don’t just need to stick with the wall papers that have the minions on them or the wall stickers and stencil designs either.  There are a lot of ways for you to add to the décor of a bedroom or a play room very easily.
You have things such as bedside lamps, light shades, bedding, bins, teddy bears and even little carpets that all have been customized with the minion designs that you can absolutely add to your child’s room.  It’s really not all about the wall paper you choose but the little accessories that help to make up the room also. Have fun and enjoy decorating your rooms with the Despicable Me minions!

I know you've seen it...but I LOVE it..

{and on a side-note..I've been reading Albert Hadley - The Story of America's Preeminent Interior Designer. It's a very entertaining read..i guess for the design obsessed like myself} I love so many of his textile and wallcovering prints; especially his "fireworks" line above, I would love to use this on a project soon...

Double Take..

Yesterday I was flipping through the June issue of Coastal Living when the nursery photo's of swimsuit designer Marysia Reeves baby's room stopped me in my tracks..I couldn't believe how many elements were similar to my son's room that I designed three years ago. You may have seen the shots of my little guy's room featured on La Dolce Vita - May 09'.

- zebra rug, the horizontal stripes, the lamb, the white canvas drapes, the crib design

Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely not implying anything here, I just thought it was a strange coincidence..I guess great design minds sometimes think alike!

Here are some other photos of Marysia's "surfer chic" {one of my favorite styles} home!

I absolutely love the turquoise interior of these cabinets!

More beach friendly design moments from this month's Coastal Living!

And also a home designed by Sasha Emerson

LOVE designer Sasha Emerson's collection of Madeline Weinrib rugs! Swoon!

Couldn't Resist!

I think when choosing a piece of art it should move you, speak to you and this little guy just did! So I bought him for Emerson's room! I discovered this watercolor among many others via the Etsy shop of Italian artist DIMDi via High Street Market{one of my newer favorite blogs - she sells some amazing finds}! Can't wait to see my piece..I'm slowly but surely gathering unique goodies for my little pumpkin's nursery.

The state of things + weekend flea market find!

There's a close up for you..I love to scour flea markets, I'm afraid my children will too, because I drag them along {neither seems to mind}! This weekend I purchased this green/blue glass "carboy" as I was told it's called. They are used for making beer and wine, which is fitting as I love both..I'm going to fill it with water and long grasses from my yard. My dream is to someday have a {very small} store that would house my design office and revamped flea-market finds. I really have a love of lamps and chairs, but I've run out of room..{would also love a small barn or garage someday - a makeshift workshop}

Also, an update on Emerson's room. See the concept here, if you missed it! I purchased these amazing letterpress graphic posters. Each is signed by the designer. I don't want to go overboard with sticky sweetness, so I thought these would be perfect. I like the message and the design. I'm going to have them individually framed for above the headboard. "Always Play Amongst Friends" from Brooklyn's Friends of Type..I also scored a simple little dresser at a yard sale. I'm going to paint it charcoal and add these glass pulls from The Paris Apartment. {they have the best glass pulls}

Remember my idea to frame images of deer and bunnies, well I'm going to do it gallery style above or on either side of the crib..{i always get nervous about hanging things above the crib}

would also love to incorporate some paper hangings..image via Making it lovely.

Happy Mother's Day!

Is this not the cutest shot? I've got to purchase this top and bloomers for Emerson! {Rikshaw Design} - I also adore their bedding.

Happy Mother's Day to all Mommie's, your wonderful Moms' and to those who are cherishing the memory of their amazing Mothers'! Enjoy your weekend!

I just had to share Jonathan Adler's idea on how to deconstruct your basic arrangement..spread it out among various vases..wow! now doesn't that look sooo much better?

While I'm on the topic of Jonathan Alder, I have to share this adorable pillow. I don't think I can resist it! {available at the end of the month}

Oh Boy.

Even though I'm supposed to be focusing on my new little girl's room + , I've been struck by vintage elements in little boy's rooms..go figure. The past 11 weeks have been a bit insane with a two year old and a new born....I'll be sure to post photos of Emerson's room when it's done! {in about four months - I'm actually hoping to finish it sooner but I'm being realistic}
{and if you missed my post on "if it's a boy" room see it here...please feel free to borrow my ideas, because I'm stopping at two!}

I thought this tile detail was great!
