My friend Louise's home in a converted school

Earlier this week I went to visit my Danish friend Louise who lives in the most fantastic house in the village of Remmarlövs in the heart of the Skåne countryside. Louise is a life coach, a lecturer on job satisfaction, flirting and communication and holds workshops in her home which she shares with her husband Johan, children Iris and Walter, ten chickens and two cats. The property was built in 1830 and started life as the village school and housed the village sauna in the basement.  It was converted to a private resident forty years ago. Today high ceilings and large windows flood the rooms with light and in the winter a large fireplace and classic Swedish masonry oven help to keep the house warm.  'Our main focus has been to create a welcoming home, where old and young alike can relax and have fun' Louise tells me.  The space is filled with vintage, antique and Scandinavian designer piece as well art and quirky touches collected over time. Look closely and you'll see a little mouse on a picture frame or a miniature tea set. I couldn't resist taking my camera along to take a few snapshots with you!

Isn't it such a wonderful home? That cat seems to love it too - although he looks a bit tired of me taking his photo?!

Recently, the family decided to head off in search of new adventures on the other side of the Öresund (i.e. Denmark) and the house will go on the market next week (watch this space!). I asked her what she'd miss most about their home: 'Oh, lots! The beauty, the light, the big rooms, the old apple trees, the churchyard, the view, the atmosphere...I totally love this house and realise I will never live like this again. I have enjoyed every single day here.'

Get the look from Johan and Louise's lovely house: paintings by Karen Broos (you can see the Swedish artist's own home here, also a converted school!), Haruko Maeda and Sarah Becker

Thank you for inviting me over Louise, what a great day!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

PS I've just arrived in Milan - very excited. Tips welcome!

PPS I've been busy updating my office for spring this week and will be sharing a few snapshots tomorrow if you'd like to stop by! And a small reminder: don't miss out on the limited edition Palm Print give-away (it only takes a mo!).

An inspiring French home with bold colour and patterns

Well hello there Friday! I can't tell you how happy I am to see you! It's been one crazy week over here - how's yours been?! The good news is, the weekend's just around the corner AND I've got an incredible home tour to share with you. Sabrina and Quentin drew on the help of  the talented team at Royal Roulotte to turn their Parisien apartment into a 'warm, happy home that promotes exchange family life and simplicity.... and neat with a little madness.' The result is a home full of beautiful rich colours, bold patterns and yet plenty of room to breath. What better way to celebrate the weekend?!

What an incredible space?! The rich colours, the patterns, the way it combines clean and contemporary with a relaxed and lived-in feel. Magnifique!

A guide to a few of the lovely items in Sabrina and Quentin's home: sitting room - copper pendant light by Tom Dixon, floral wallpaper, kitchen - Signal wall lights, Nespresso coffee machine. dining area - tulip chair, DSW chairs. children's room - source a mid-century credenza here.

I'm such a big fan of Royal Roulotte's work - you may also recognise the name from this fabulous home and this kitchen project.

And that's it for me for the week, all that's left to do is wish you a wonderful weekend! I hope it's full of love, laughter and the all important 'hygge' feel!

See you Monday!

Carlson Young's charismatic and relaxed L.A. loft

Hello Monday! It's sooooo wet and windy in Malmö today (you should have seen me on my bike this morning!) - so I'm taking 'virtual' haven in the wonderful downtown L:A: loft of 'Scream' star actress Carlson Young, which she shares with fiancé musicial Isom Ininis of Foster the People (I'm sure you'll agree that as havens go, this is a pretty fab choice!). Recently featured on My Domaine and designed in collaboration with interior designers  Joyce Pickens and Caroline Walku, the loft was transformed over the space of three months to a vibrant, creative home with personal touches, and the perfect blend of vintage and modern items. Enjoy!

What a great home tour to kick off the week, don't you think?

What rain?!

Get the look from Isom and Carlson's loft: source a vintage kilim rug here, I like this rattan hanging chair, this brown leather sofa is similar. Scissor wall lamp. This is a great place to pick up a vintage typewriter.

See more pics of this super relaxed home here.

Have a wonderful start to the week - I hope the sun is shining for you!

Angles from Annabelle's home

It's amazing how much inspiration you can get from zooming into selected areas of a home. Take this barn conversion recently featured on Design Sponge as an example. It belongs to Anabelle Kerslake. co-founder of fete magazine, and her family in Balhannah in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. The pair have carried out extensive renovations and decorated the space using an eclectic mix of styles. French antiques rub shoulders with Danish mid-century items from her sister and brother-in-laws shop, while industrial and romantic florals also play a part in the overall look. Anabelle's rule has been if she loves it, she buys it. A rule close to my own heart.

What do you think of this eclectic style? Anything that stands out to you in particular?

For more eclectic home inspiration it's worth taking a peek at this and this one.

Mid-century (as you know) is one of my favourite styles (I'm sure you've seen my drinks trolley and coffee table!), you only have to take a look through the 30 'mid-century modern' home tours I've squirreled away! To source fab mid-century items try Lauritz, e-bay, Etsy or LiveAuctioneers.

Have a wonderful day!

An eclectic family home in Norway

I love to mix things up a little here on My Scandinavian Home. This week it's been mainly about the contemporary monochrome home with crisp, clean lines. It's definitely time for some colour, it's the weekend after all! This eclectic family home in Norway is full of bursts of colour and a real mix of vintage, retro and country style. I love that it's awash with warm light. The perfect home to celebrate a few days off wouldn't you say?!

What I like most about this home is that it has a big heart - every item is unique and tells a story. You'd be able to walk in here and immediately know who lives here. I love that about a home.

And there's those  fabulous Tulip chairs and table too of course.

Mustn't forget the little kitty cat either. And my new favourite tea - Lov organic ginger-lemon tea in the kitchen (15% off with code SCANDINAVIAN).

What do you love about this home?

My Scandinavian Home turned three this week, I think that calls for a celebration don't you?! I've created over 1300 posts in that time (can you believe that?!) some of my favourites are archived under Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish or International home tours, woth a look if you have a little time!

To celebrate I'm holding a weekend give-away with an oh so cool prize so pop back over the next couple of days to enter!

Have a wonderful day!
